The nominees for the 94th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday (February 8).
Fans of Nicole Kidman were hopeful the actress would receive a nomination for her portrayal of Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos. She previously won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her performance as Ball.
When the nominees in the Oscars’ category for Actress in a Leading Role were finally revealed, Kidman was included. She is nominated in the category alongside Kristen Stewart, Penélope Cruz, Jessica Chastain, and Olivia Colman.

If Kidman wins this year, it will be her second Oscar victory. She previously won the Best Actress Award in 2002 for her performance in The Hours.
An overjoyed Kidman reacted to her nomination on social media. She wrote:
“WOW! I’m so overwhelmed! Just having breakfast with my family when the nominations came in. What a beautiful way to find out!“
Kidman went on to say that playing Ball “was the hardest role” she’s “ever done and to be honored this way is deeply appreciated.” She also gave her thanks to Ball’s son and daughter “for trusting” her “with the opportunity to inhabit” their mom:
“Lucille Ball is one of Hollywood’s greatest icons. She was ahead of her time. From actress to producer to studio head, mother and wife, she’s an extraordinary inspiration! Thank you Lucille Ball,” Kidman wrote.

Kidman’s husband, country music artist Keith Urban, gushed about her nomination in a post of his own. He shared a photo of Kidman calling him on set in April 2021, which shows her in full costume as Ball:
“CONGRATS on your OSCAR nomination today babygirl!” Urban said. “SO proud of you & all that you poured into this dual role. Lucille AND Lucy. We REALLY lived through it with you on this one, & you gave it EVERYTHING. Here’s me FaceTiming you on set back in April 2021. Loving you always.”
