After announcing a series of concert cancellations, the world-famous singer and actress has revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer.
In a post on her Facebook page, the singer has postponed all of her United States and Canadian tour dates for the summer and explained that the original cause of her May 2017 cancellations has turned out to be cancer.
The earlier announcement of postponements for May concert dates was said to be due to her fight with sciatica, however in the new statement, it’s revealed that the pain they thought related to sciatica has been diagnosed as a form of breast cancer.
“Olivia Newton-John is reluctantly postponing her June U.S. and Canadian concert tour dates. The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum,“ the statement reads, in part.
The press release also states that the singer is undergoing “natural wellness therapies” and is set to complete a series of photon radiation therapy, adding that she “is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows”.
“I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” Olivia Newton-John said in the release.
Her team closed out the release saying they will not be granting interview requests while the singer takes time to focus on her health and recovery. Refunds for her affected concert dates will be given, and the new dates for her shows will be announced “in the coming weeks”.
Our hearts break to hear about this terrifying battle with cancer, but we are keeping Olivia Newton-John in our thoughts and prayers.
