Remember When NBC Boss Said Adam Wouldn’t Leave ‘The Voice’?

NBC/The Voice

We have all seen various coaches come and go in the last 16 seasons of NBC’s hit singing competition, The Voice, but there have only ever been two coaches that always stayed: Blake and Adam. It’s often been said that all good things come to an end, and now we know that Season 16 would be Adam’s last, but not long before his departure was announced, a chairman for the network opened up candidly with the press about his potential exit.

According to ET, NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt spoke with reporters during the 2016 summer Television Critics Association, and one of the topics was Blake and Adam’s positions on The Voice.

“If I can compare it to a scripted show, you kind of have your series regulars that you love. They are always hugely popular whenever we do testing and we’ve done a fair amount of that over 11 cycles,” Greenblatt says of the pair’s standings. “We think they’re the pillars of the show and then we have this revolving family of Gwen, Pharrell, now Miley and Alicia joining the pack.”

While they are definitely the pillars of the program, it left fans wondering if that ensure they’re going to stay? Greenblatt also shed some light on why, he says, they’re not likely to leave anytime soon.

“They love doing the show and they love the paycheck,” he joked with the press. “We think the heart of it is those two guys and what they’ve built and their relationship and the surprise of the new people.”

This upcoming season will be the first without Adam.
