Rodney Atkins got the surprise of a lifetime when his wife tricked him with a baby gender reveal!
The country singer and his equally talented wife, Rose are expecting their second baby boy together. The couple’s first born, Ryder Falcon said hello to the world on December 15, 2017. Since his big arrival, he’s made quite the impact on the family – even singing on stage next to his daddy! Rodney also has a 17-year-old son, Elijah from his previous marriage.

Now the Atkins are ready to grow their family but little did Rodney realize – his wife already knew the gender! So, she thought of the perfect way to surprise him.
It’s A Boy!
In the video, Atkins stands on his driveway ready to hit a ball for what he thinks is a promo video for the Second Harvest Food Bank. After several tries of swing and miss, Rodney hits the ball and it explodes into a cloud of blue!
Rose bursts into laughter and excitement as Rodney takes a couple of seconds before processing what just happened. As he pieces together the blue smoke and his wife’s giant smile, it’s more than clear that he’s having another baby boy!
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Rodney admitted,
“We did the ‘sneak peek’ gender test when Rose was pregnant with Ryder, and Eli and I got to surprise her…so this time it was her turn. And ‘boy’ she really got me good.”
Atkins big reveal about baby No. 2 came on Valentine’s day at the very end of his “My Life” lyric video. His oldest son Elijah was holding baby Ryder while he held onto an ultrasound framed photo. It was the perfect ending to the sweetest video.
