Grand Ole Opry YouTube

Hold on to your hats Scotty McCreery fans, because we’ve got some exciting news for you!

Back in June 2016, McCreery took to the Grand Ole Opry stage with a new song in tow. That song was “Five More Minutes,” which McCreery felt inspired to write following his grandfather’s death in January 2015.

McCreery moved into singing “Five More Minutes” after his short introduction, and had the crowd hooked from the start. He took everyone on a musical journey, exploring the moments in life when you wish you had just five more minutes to treasure them. Such moments that McCreery sings about include a day spent fishing with a friend and a final high school football game.

The whole song concludes with McCreery singing about his grandfather’s passing, and how he begged God to have just “five more minutes” with him on Earth. This emotional ending hit the Opry audience hard, and they gave McCreery a standing ovation for his performance.

It didn’t take long for the video of McCreery’s Opry performance to make its way around the world. In less than a year’s time, the video has been viewed 2.5 million times, and counting.

To understand how important that accomplishment is, it’s worth noting that “Five More Minutes” has never been released as an official single. That means the Opry video for “Five More Minutes” has gained all of that traction without the song being on iTunes, streaming services, radio, or any album.

Since millions of people feel so passionately about “Five More Minutes,” they’ve been hopeful that McCreery would release it as a single one day. McCreery teased the possibility a few times in the past, saying that it was only a matter of time.

Now, that time has finally arrived. As McCreery confirmed on social media on Monday (May 1), “Five More Minutes” is being officially released on Friday (May 5).

Well it’s about time…“McCreery wrote in a caption to a photo containing the single’s cover art. “Releasing #FiveMoreMinutes to y’all this Friday!
