The highly anticipated video from Sugarland was released in June 2018 and we still can’t stop watching it.
The retro themed video for the Taylor Swift-penned song “Babe” is basically a four minute soap opera starring Swift and Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles as two women who love the same man.
Country-turned-pop megastar Swift not only lends her vocals to the tune, but she also portrays a red-headed “other woman.” Nettles is the devoted housewife who shows up at her husband’s office unexpectedly and catches him and Swift together.
Nettles’ emotions are on full display as she deals with the shock, grief then letting go. In the end, Nettles’ on screen husband leaves his mistress to return to his wife, but finds that it’s too late.
During an interview on the CMT Awards red carpet recently, Sugarland’s Kristian Bush and Nettles revealed that the entire concept for the music video was Taylor Swift’s doing.
“She wrote the treatment,” Kristian confirmed. “It’s SO good.”
They also shared that Swift originally wrote “Babe” for her 2013 album Red, but passed it on to Sugarland when the song didn’t end up on her album. “Babe” is the first single from the duo’s new album, Bigger, their first in 8 years.
