The Voice just named its key advisor for Season 17…Taylor Swift!

Swift is no stranger to The Voice, having appeared on it twice as a mentor. Her first time on the show was during Season 4, when she served as a team advisor for Usher.

That was in 2013, which was the year before Swift made her jump from country music into the pop scene.

By the time Swift returned to The Voice during Season 7, she had a hit pop single, “Shake It Off.” Her newfound fame as a pop star made her the perfect candidate to serve as The Voice‘s key advisor for that season.

Unlike team advisors, which only mentor one coach’s team, key advisors offer advice to all four coaches’ contestants.

In addition to Swift, other key advisors on The Voice have been Garth Brooks, Miley Cyrus, and current coach Kelly Clarkson.

With Season 17 set to debut next week, The Voice has been unveiling more information about the pre-taped portions of the season. The team advisors were revealed in early September, and “Wagon Wheel” singer Darius Rucker was named as Blake Shelton‘s pick for his team.

But until Monday (September 16), fans had no clue who would serve in the key advisor role. Reigning winner John Legend sat with Shelton to share the news through a comical video The Voice posted to its social media profiles.

The video shows the two men discussing who the key advisor is for the season, saying they can’t recall who it is except for the fact that she’s “a big star” and “one of the most successful people in music.”

At that moment, Swift comes out of one of the trailers. After she walks away, Shelton and Legend realize she’s their key advisor!

You can watch their discovery by tuning in to the clip below.

Deadline also confirmed the news, reporting that Swift will help the contestants prior to the Knockout Rounds. The Knockouts were previously replaced by the Live Cross Battles during Season 16, but appear to be returning for Season 17.

In the five years since Swift last mentored on The Voice, she has made herself one of the most successful music stars in the world. The Voice contestants will be able to learn a lot from her!
