Landman Picked Up The Pace In Episode 3
Taylor Sheridan‘s new show, Landman, picked up the pace in episode three. While the first two episodes focused on establishing the characters and the world they inhabit, this episode dove directly into the action.
To recap, the main character of the series is Tommy Norris, portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton. He serves as the “fixer” for an oil company, but the official title is crisis manager. Tommy has two children with his ex-wife, Angela, played by Ali Larter. Their son, Copper, portrayed by Jacob Lofland, works in the oil fields.
The current crises Tommy is juggling include a stolen plane, an explosion that killed three of Tommy’s men, and the arrival of his ex-wife in town.

What Is The Stolen Plane Crisis?
In the first episode of Landman, a cartel uses a stolen plane to smuggle drugs. The plane originally belonged to Tommy’s boss, Monty Miller, and Tommy failed to report it stolen. This became a significant issue when the plane was involved in a fiery crash on the highway while it was being loaded with narcotics.
In episode 2, you meet a young, serious lawyer who is sent to investigate the crash. In episode 3, you learn why she is really there, which is to pin the blame on Tommy.
Even Tommy’s boss, Monty, is under pressure to blame Tommy, but he refuses to do so. Monty explains that in the unpredictable environment of the Texas oil industry, it is common for trucks and planes to be stolen; however, they usually end up being returned. Involving the government would harm their business more than the thefts themselves.
The Explosion On The Oil Field
The explosion that took out three of the oilmen was a large part of the storyline but mostly includes Cooper, who was the sole survivor of the explosion.
In the third episode, Cooper gets attacked by the lost man’s family; they do not know how he survived, and their family did not. Cooper beat up the attackers fast using his college wrestling skills.
After the fight, Cooper is placed on their crew. In an attempt to make amends, he attends the wake for the lost men. There, he meets a potential love interest in the widow of one of the lost men.
The Arrival Of His Ex-Wife
A main plot point is the interesting dynamic between Tommy and his ex-wife Angela, who is a vixen. She arrives and, within a couple hours, gets drunk with her seventeen-year-old daughter and throws herself at her ex-husband. The Norris family drama is still unraveling.
