24-year-old Olivia Rubini walked on The Voice stage hopeful to make it on the show, and she walked off as a member of Team Legend.
She put her best foot forward with a cover of the iconic Linda Ronstadt’s song “Long, Long Time.”
Ronstadt released “Long, Long Time” well before the 24-year-old was born…in 1970.
It was included on her Silk Purse album, which was only the second solo album of her career. Prior to her solo career, she was a member of the folk band Stone Poneys. The album was Ronstadt’s first foray into country music and it included covers of song by Hank Williams and Mel Tillis.
Her song “Long, Long Time” earned her a grammy Award for Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance.
Olivia turned it into her own while auditioning for The Voice.
In her pre-show package, Olivia described her musical style as “old ’70s… but also fun pop,” and choosing a Linda Ronstadt song was perfect for her voice.
It didn’t take too long for coach John Legend to turn around for her, and he was the only one, so he didn’t have to fight for her! He was probably relieved because her voice may have been suited best with another coach!
Legend was excited for her to join his team and gave her a Team legend jacket before she walked off stage. His only critique was that “the only time you messed up was you got a little bit shaken by me turning around.”
Other than that, Legend loved what he heard, which is why he selected her to be the last member of his team!
We’re excited to see what Olivia and Legend do together and who he will team her up against for the Battle Rounds, which begin on March 18!
