Back in February, Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins thrilled fans when they announced they are expecting their first child together. But that wasn’t the only happy news the couple had to share! They revealed on the same day that they are also in the process of adopting a child from Africa.
The pregnancy came as a surprise to the couple, since they had agreed to stop trying for a baby of their own while they were in the midst of the adoption process. “When we began the adoption process, we said, ‘Let’s wait, let’s give this adopted child his or her time with us and then we’ll continue our family,'” Lauren told People.
So imagine the couple’s surprise when they learned that Lauren was expecting! The two shared the news with an adorable photo, with Lauren writing, “our hearts are exploding with happiness.”

The couple later found out that they are expecting a baby girl. Lauren is due in early August, and Thomas loves sharing photos of her with his fans. A super sweet photo he posted on Wednesday (May 10) shows just how much Lauren’s baby bump has grown since she walked the red carpet with her hubby at the ACMs in April.
Thomas found the beauty in a simple, everyday task as Lauren prepared a smoothie for herself at the kitchen counter. Although Lauren was wearing a loose shirt, you can still see the outline of her baby bump. Thomas happened to capture the perfect moment as Lauren turned around and smiled at him, and couldn’t help but share the photo.
“Thank you Lord for this woman,” he wrote.
