This has been one hell of a year for Thomas Rhett. His dreams became a reality at the 2016 CMA Awards when the academy named his single, “Die a Happy Man,” the “Single of the Year.”

“This was such a special night, I’ve always wanted to win a CMA Award,” said Rhett backstage following his big win. “So for it to be a song that meant so much to me…it means the world.”

In the night dedicated to the honoring of country musicians both from the past and the present, there were two guests people just can’t seem to stop talking about. Beyoncé Knowles performed alongside the Dixie Chicks for a countrified performance of her song “Daddy Lessons.” Of course, the pop star didn’t ride solo to event, bringing along husband and hip-hop rap legend, Jay-Z.

“There’s country music royalty in the house, there’s hip-hop royalty in the house. I just hung out with Jay-Z for ten minutes and that was the weirdest thing ever…But awesome.”

Rhett woke up after the CMA Awards to a hysterically unexpected text from retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning of the three new friends.
