Awards Shows Snub Yellowstone Year After Year

The nominees for the 2023 Emmys were announced on Wednesday (July 12). Some of the series that earned the most nominations were Succession, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us.

Yet, despite being one of the top shows on TV, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone was snubbed by the Emmys…again.

Yellowstone draws in millions of viewers whenever it airs. It has shattered ratings records more than once.

However, its popularity has not translated into accolades. Awards shows snub Yellowstone more often than not, much to fans’ surprise.

Yellowstone has only been nominated for a handful of major awards over the course of its run. It’s won just two…the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for Television Series – One Hour from the Cinema Audio Society Awards, and the Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series Drama (which went to the show’s lead, Kevin Costner).

Yellowstone has only earned one Emmy nomination in the past. That nomination came in 2021 from the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More).

The Emmys Snub Yellowstone & Other Taylor Sheridan Programs

Once again, Yellowstone did not receive any Emmy nominations this year. Furthermore, creator Taylor Sheirdan’s other popular series were also snubbed.

There were no nominations for The Mayor of Kingstown or the Yellowstone prequel 1923. Sheridan’s Tulsa King did earn a single nomination, for stunt coordination.

This news come as the fate of Yellowstone remains in limbo. It was confirmed by Paramount that Season 5 will be the show’s last. It was originally projected to start airing its final episodes in November.

But with the Writers Guild of America strike and now the SAG-AFTRA strike, it could be even longer before Yellowstone returns to close out the Duttons’ story.
