Zach Top Performed The Acoustic Version Of “When You See Me” In His Garage

For many Americans, the garage is where tools are stored and where many handyman projects begin.

While country artist Zach Top likely stores his guitars elsewhere, for climate control purposes, that doesn’t mean that the garage is off limits as a place to do the work of his trade.

On Jan. 21, Zach shared his first garage acoustic performance of the new year on social media, writing, “Back to your regularly scheduled garage acoustics.”

The subject of this particular session was “When You See Me,” which is the third track on his third album, the 2025 release Ain’t In It For My Health.

“When You See Me” is a song about moving on from a broken heart.

In the latest clip of his garage performance, he begins at the second verse, singing, “Well, I just bought me a new truck. I couldn’t drive that ol’ pickup with your memory ridin’ next to me, and I’m takin’ me a long trip — some place I ain’t been yet — and I’ll be back sometime. Oh, and I’ll be fine.”

Zach then gets to the chorus, singing, “When you see me, girl, you won’t recognize me.”

The timing of Zach Top sharing the video of this acoustic garage performance comes as the 68th Grammy Awards are just over a week away, airing on Feb. 1.

There, Zach Top’s album Ain’t In It For My Health is nominated for the first ever Grammy Award for Best Traditional Country Album. Other nominees in the category include Charley Crockett’s Dollar a Day, Lukas Nelson’s American Romance, Willie Nelson’s Oh What A Beautiful World, and Margo Price’s Hard Headed Woman.

The studio version of the song, as it appears on Zach’s album Ain’t In It For My Health, has a much bigger sound. Featuring electric guitars, as well as percussion and even a piano, it’s a different energy than the acoustic version Zach taped in his garage.
