The country music community just lost one of its brightest rising stars.
33-year-old Taylor Dee was a country singer from Farmersville, Texas with over 6,000 followers on Facebook and over 5,000 followers on Instagram. Her first single, “The Buzz,” was released in 2019.
The last single she released was “Top Shelf Liquor.” Its official music video has generated thousands of views since it was posted in January.
Linda Wilson, the president of the Texas Country Music Association, spoke highly of Dee in a statement issued to KTVT. “Taylor Dee was the real deal – a true talent with a heart and passion not only for her music but for people. In every performance, her talent was evident, but more importantly she allowed her fans to know her heart,” Wilson said.
PEOPLE confirmed Dee was driving down State Highway 183 near in Euless, Texas on the evening of March 14 when she was involved in an accident. The publication cites a news release from the Euless City Police Department that describes what occurred:
“Dee was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer when she attempted to make an abrupt lane change and missed the turn, crashing into a cushion barrier,” PEOPLE reports.
After hitting the cushion barrier, Dee’s car flipped and struck a hit an overhead sign with its roof. Dee was not wearing a seatbelt, and police said she was “found outside the vehicle a short distance away in grave condition.”
Dee was taken to a local hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.
A 36-year-old male passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital on March 15.
