On Wednesday, the Maroon 5 frontman gave fans a look at his new tattoo in an Instagram Story. The new ink is a tattoo of a wave, which sweeps across his thigh and down his leg.
“Today was ouch but worth it,” Levine captioned the video.
The tattoo itself resembles The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, a famous piece of art from Japanese artist Hokusai. According to E! News, the massive ink is the singer’s 27th tattoo. It is also one of Levine’s most extensive pieces, which took about three days to complete. In 2016, Levine had a large siren piece tattooed across his back, which took about six months from start to finish.

“Most painful way to get a tan,” Levine joked as he shared glimpses of his fresh ink.
