Sunday night (May 21) was an exciting one for Blake Shelton! The “Every Time I Hear That Song” singer and Voice coach won big at the Billboard Music Awards, where he was named the Top Country Artist of the year.
It comes as no surprise that Shelton was selected as the winner of the award. Released in May 2016, his album If I’m Honest claimed the top spot on the Billboard Country Albums chart and also managed to snag the third spot on the all-genre albums chart.
If I’m Honest has produced two number one hits so far, including “Came Here to Forget” and “A Guy With a Girl.” Another single, “She’s Got a Way With Words,” hit the seventh spot on the charts, and his current single, “Every Time I Hear That Song,” has climbed as high as the tenth spot so far.
With numbers like that, Shelton is more than deserving of the BMA for Top Country Artist this year. Everyone at the BMAs seemed to agree, as they cheered for Shelton once he was announced as the winner.
Before he stepped up on stage to give his speech, Shelton turned to his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, who was seated next to him in the front row. He leaned over and gave Stefani a sweet kiss, and the moment was captured for all to see.
Shelton showed some more love to Stefani once he made his way on stage to give his acceptance speech. He said that he “had a good feeling” about the night, and noted how he already felt like a winner because he was there with Stefani.
“I felt like I was the luckiest guy in the room anyway because Gwen is here with me, so I had a good feeling about it,” he said. As the crowd cheered, the camera cut to show Stefani, who was grinning from ear to ear.
Stefani later took the turn to gush about her boyfriend. She shared an adorable photo of the two of them snuggled up next to one another while hanging out behind the scenes. “Just hanging out w this winner,” she wrote.
