After decades of incredible music, a beautiful partnership, and a career filled with unforgettable moments, the iconic 70s duo “Captain & Tennille” has lost its Captain…

Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille became the Captain & Tennille duo we all know and love back in 1974 and worked together for the next 39 years until they broke up in 2013.

Dragon, was a classically trained pianist who performed with the Beach Boys before he and Tennille found success as a duo. He even recommended Tennille to the Beach Boys when they needed an additional keyboardist. She toured with them for a year and was known thereafter as The Beach Boys’ one and only “Beach Girl.”

Dragon and Tennille married in November 1975 and became one of the most famous husband-and-wife musical acts the world has ever seen.

Together, they charted eleven Top 10 hits and released more than 20 albums throughout their career – including four certified gold and one platinum.

Skyrocketing to the top of the charts faster than they ever dreamed, the two earned a string of hit singles off their first album Love Will Keep Us Together.

With such a massive following and incredible radio success, the two earned their own 1970s television variety show, The Captain and Tennille TV Show, which was one of many that appeared on tv in that time.

During one episode, they even welcomed legendary country hitmaker Glen Campbell to join them for a fun country song written by Toni Tennille herself.

Dragon and Tennille divorced in 2014 just a year after breaking up the band but remained very close. She even moved to Arizona to help care for Dragon when he became ill.

On Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019, Dragon died while in hospice care in Prescott, Arizona. According to The Washington Post, his spokesman Harlan Boll said that he was just 76 years old and passed away from renal failure. Tennille was by his side when he passed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tennille and Dragon’s family, friends, and fans during this very difficult time.
