Jerry Lee Lewis passed away on October 28 at the age of 87. His death came just 12 days after her was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Lewis was unable to attend the CMHOF induction ceremony due to his poor health. His friend and fellow CMHOF member Kris Kristofferson accepted the medallion on his behalf and later brought it to him in Memphis.
“Thank you all for your support and love and for electing me into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and most of all, thanks to God for allowing me to experience this honor while I am still here,” Lewis wrote in an acceptance note that was shared on social media. The note was posted alongside a photo of Kristofferson presenting Lewis’ medallion to him.
