Morgan Wallen Goes On Vocal Rest

Just days before the ACM Awards, Entertainer of the Year nominee Morgan Wallen announced he would no longer be able to perform during the ceremony.

“After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida. By the third one I felt terrible, so I went in and got scoped yesterday,”  Wallen said in a video on Instagram. “They told me that I re-injured by vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma. Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do.”

This news came after Wallen previously canceled his show at Ole Miss minutes before he was supposed to appear onstage. Wallen also attributed that cancellation to vocal issues.

Wallen postponed three shows after Ole Miss. He eventually returned for the three Florida shows, but his voice wasn’t at 100% then.

Other Artists Step Up To Fill Morgan Wallen’s Performance Slots

Since he’s on vocal rest, Wallen had to cancel all of his upcoming shows. He also had to cancel his appearance at several upcoming festivals. Kenny Chesney ended up taking his place at two of those festivals.

Wallen had to cancel his ACM Awards performance as well. He was also supposed to perform at the ACM’s Lifting Lives concert the previous day (May 10). The ACM quickly found a replacement, as Jason Aldean stepped up to fill Wallen’s performance slot.

Aldean, who is the ACM’s reigning Artist of the Decade, performed an acoustic set during the Lifting Lives concert. He also tipped his hat to Wallen by performing a cover of his song “Whiskey Glasses.”

@jasonaldean stepped in to join the all-star #ACMLiftingLives LIVE show presented by VGT by @aristocratgaming yesterday – and the reigning ACM Artist of the Decade showed exactly why he earned that crown with an acoustic set of some of his greatest hits…” the ACM said in a post on Instagram.

Wallen previously performed “Whiskey Glasses” with Aldean at Bridgestone Arena in 2022. Watch that performance below.

Aldean is also nominated for Entertainer of the Year at this year’s ACM Awards. Despite that, he’s actually pulling for Wallen to win:

For me, Morgan would be the guy that I would look at and go, ‘He’s been hotter, bigger than anybody else in our genre.’ That’s who I would think should get it,” he told Taste of Country.

We’ll have to wait and see if one of them wins the trophy!
