The world is mourning the unexpected death of actor and singer Leslie Jordan. He passed away on Monday (October 24) at the age of 67.

Jordan first established himself as an actor in series such as Will & Grace, American Horror Story, and Hearts Afire. When everything came to a halt at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jordan used his sense of humor to entertain his followers on social media. His videos went viral, causing his Instagram follower count to jump from 80,000 to nearly 6 million.

I was just thinking, ‘My gosh who are these people that want to hear what I have to say?‘” Jordan told CBS News in an interview just weeks before his death. “It was just the innocence of it I guess.”

On top of sharing his comedic videos, Jordan would sing hymns in videos he shared on Sundays. Those videos inspired him to create his first album, Company’s Comin‘.

Jordan released the album last year (2021). It featured collaborations with country artists such as Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker, Chris and Morgane Stapleton, and Ashley McBryde. That same year, Jordan made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry and got the chance to present at the ACM Awards.

In his interview with CBS News, Jordan spoke about his “unexpected” venture into the country music world. He said, “So unexpected just to happen in my 60s — I’m a country music singer now.

Jordan explained how other country artists welcomed him with open arms.I love Nashville and the way that Nashville embraced me, you know, and to be taken kind of serious…” he said.

In the caption to a video posted just one day before his death, Jordan said he was working on “a new original song that should be comin’ out real soon.” After Jordan passed away, his team shared they “will be giving a glimpse of a project Leslie was really proud of and was looking forward to sharing with the world.”
