On Monday evening September 7th, 2020, in Broward County, Florida, Eric Tukes led police on a high-speed chase off the coast of Miami on his jet ski.

The chase started around 8pm after Eric was spotted in an off-limits manatee zone. When Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers tried to approach him he zoomed off, which led to a lengthy chase starting in Broward County and ending in Miami-Dade County.

The Mayor of Hallandale Beach, Joy Cooper witnessed the incident and told Local 10. “We saw a police marine vehicle come down our canal and then there were helicopters.”

The chase was caught on camera by a witness overlooking Sunny Isles Beach. After a while, it finally came to an end with Eric ditching the jet ski and taking off on foot. He was later caught and arrested walking near a Boston Market behind Mayor Cooper’s house.

Mayor Cooper said, “He ditched his jet ski and our police department was coming around on Lane Boulevard and they saw this gentleman walking so they captured him.”

After investigating why Eric ran away from the police in the first place, officials found out that he had a warrant out for his arrest. They ended up charging him for a federal probation violation. Take a look at the police chase video footage below.
