Maddie & Tae won the Group/Duo Video of the Year award at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday (April 11). They won with their music video for “Woman You Got,” which has over 1.6 million views on YouTube.

It was the duo’s first time ever winning a CMT Music Award.

Only Maddie was present to accept the award in person. Tae’s daughter, Leighton, was born three months early, so Tae was home with her. She witnessed Maddie’s acceptance speech over video call.

Maddie got emotional while accepting the award as she gave thanks to God. She got even more emotional when she saw Tae and Leighton on the big screen. Maddie told her best friend how much she misses her, and said she couldn’t do this without her.

As Maddie later told Billboard:

I miss her so much. It is hard doing this business without my soul sister. I’ve just been holding it together as much as I can.”

She also told Billboard that she was so overwhelmed with emotion that she “messed up” her exit offstage after her speech. But Carrie Underwood‘s husband, Mike Fisher, stepped up to help her out:

I messed up the whole outro of walking offstage, so Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike took a knee so I could sit in his seat,” Maddie said. “He was so sweet. “

Maddie also spoke highly about Carrie. She and Tae toured with Carrie in 2019, and they developed a strong friendship.

Carrie, man, she brings the same kind of peace that Tae brings, which I don’t have,” Maddie said, “so I really needed her tonight and she was there for me like she always is.”

That was so nice of Carrie and Mike to be there for Maddie. Tune in to the video below to watch her acceptance speech at the CMT Music Awards.

Congratulations to Maddie & Tae on their win!
