Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban have a friendship that has lasted for well over a decade. The two began touring together in 2005, and quickly developed a mutual appreciation for each other’s talents.

By 2013, the friends decided to pair up for a duet. Titled “We Were Us,” the track claimed the top spot on both the U.S. Country Airplay and Hot Country charts. It was also a crossover success, and snagged the 26th position on the Billboard Hot 100.

Because their friendship dates so far back, it made perfect sense that Urban was asked to recognize Lambert at the 2019 ACM Honors on August 21.

Lambert was the recipient of the ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award. According to CMT, the award “was created to acknowledge the person in country music who had an unprecedented and outstanding year of achievements.”

Urban celebrated his friend’s accomplishments in his presentation of her award, saying, “You made the records you wanted to make. You stayed true to yourself, and here you are accepting this award.”

In addition to celebrating Lambert’s achievements, Urban took to the stage to join his friend in a duet. Only instead of singing “We Were Us,” the pair chose to sing what is known as one of Lambert’s signature songs, “The House That Built Me.”

Lambert usually sings “The House That Built Me” alone. Though she has performed it as a duet a few times in the past with artists such as Patty Loveless and Dia Frampton.

But it was definitely a new thing to watch her sing the song with Urban.

The two shared an embrace before they kicked off the song, which Lambert opened. Urban then took the chance to sing on his own before Lambert jumped back in to sing with him.

By the time the pair wrapped up, we’re sure there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen in the crowd. You can check out their emotional performance by tuning in to the video below.

After seeing this, we can’t wait for Urban and Lambert to release another collaboration some day!
