Oliver Anthony Released A New Political Song Close To The Year Anniversary Of His First Hit
“I haven’t recorded a new song from my cell phone in a good long while. This is an unreleased one called ‘It’s about time.'” Anthony said this at the opening of the video, where he shared his most recent song.
In the YouTube caption, Anthony shared his “why” behind releasing his new track.
“There are statistics online showing that Virginia’s food insecurity rate is around 11%. That means one out of every seven children in my state has experienced some level of starvation. Out of the top 10 localities of food insecurity, 8 of them are rural. There are multiple different websites with various statistics, but this was the average I found of everywhere I checked. Meanwhile, all of Virginia’s farms are either struggling or already abandoned.”
He goes on to say:
“I’m sick of watching my state, and my entire country, deteriorate in front of my very eyes. But the only thing I can recall seeing a politician talk about in Virginia that gained any significant attention, was that statue of Robert E Lee on monument avenue. It was on the news everyday, with the intention of polarizing as many of us against each other as possible.”
Anthony is frustrated that his state isn’t providing the support needed to tackle child starvation in Virginia.
He points out his disappointment that this issue receives little attention from the news, while the statue of Robert E. Lee garnered significant mainstream media coverage.
Besides releasing his new song, Anthony shared he is working on something to help: “I’m working on a system that can help connect all of us more effectively and start to starve out those who have been starving us.”
