Former American Idol judge and America’s Got Talent creator Simon Cowell spoke out for the first time since his biking accident on Saturday, August 8.

Simon tweeted some “advice” after the accident to his Twitter fans on Sunday, August 9. He also replied to the same tweet, thanking everyone at the hospital for their graciousness while he was there.

On Saturday, August 8, Simon was in the courtyard of his Malibu home testing out an electric bike when he “fell off.” The fall resulted in a broken back for which he was being treated for over the weekend.

In a statement from his rep to PEOPLE, Simon underwent a 5-hour surgery on Saturday (August 8) night.

“Simon had surgery overnight and is doing okay this morning. It was a five-hour surgery and he has had to have a number of fusions and metal rod put into his back. He landed on his back when he fell from the bike. The injuries are bad but he’s also been told he was lucky.”

Simon was scheduled to film the first live show for the 15th season of America’s Got Talent this Tuesday, however, he will have to miss the first two live shows due to his accident.

We wish Simon a full and speedy recovery.
