In 1990, the rock band The Black Crowes released a song that would go on to become one of their most iconic works. Titled “She Talks to Angels,” the song was written by brothers and bandmates Chris and Rich Robinson.
“She Talks to Angels” flew to the top spot of the U.S. Album Rock Tracks chart. It also claimed the 30th spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
The song’s popularity led to many covers, including one from a country music superstar.
Several years ago, Blake Shelton participated in a televised event, during which he delivered a stripped cover of “She Talks to Angels.” Fans were instantly captivated by his rendition, and it remains one of the most well-known versions of the song.
As of this writing, a video showcasing Shelton’s performance of “She Talks to Angels” has over nine million views on YouTube.
Due to the song’s lasting legacy and the fact that Shelton previously covered it, no one should be surprised that some Voice contestants have performed “She Talks to Angels” in the past. Just a few singers to do so were Season 4’s Shawna P. and Season 13’s Dennis Drummond.
More recently, reigning American Idol champion Laine Hardy performed “She Talks to Angels” during Hollywood Week. That performance gave fans one of the first chances to digest Hardy’s unique style, which blends elements of rock and country.

Back on The Voice, the song got another renewal, this time from Team Blake’s Ricky Duran during the Season 17 knockouts. Since Duran was surely well-aware that his coach had covered the song, we bet he felt some pressure as he sang.
If Duran was nervous about his performance, those nerves didn’t show. He delivered a powerful, mesmerizing performance that left his coach visibly impressed. Kelly Clarkson even gave him a standing ovation once he finished.
Duran competed against Joana Martinez in the knockouts. In the end, Shelton couldn’t deny his talent, and picked him as the winner!
