Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker joined forces in 2004 to release “When the Sun Goes Down.” The beachy tune became a #1 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart and crossed over to claim the 26th slot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

The two friends have reunited to sing the song live a few times in the past, and the crowd always goes wild when they do.

Although Uncle Kracker can’t join him for every show, Chesney still includes “When the Sun Goes Down” in his setlist. So when he started singing the song during his August 2022 concert in Detroit, Michigan, it wasn’t out of the ordinary.

What the crowd didn’t know is that Uncle Kracker was waiting in the wings. He surprised everyone by walking onstage to sing the second verse.

Radio station 100.7 The Coyote said the audience “went crazy” when Uncle Kracker arrived.

Uncle Kracker’s appearance meant a lot to the Detroit crowd, since he was born in the nearby city of Mount Clemens. The fact that Uncle Kracker showed up at the Kenny Chesney concert made my entire night,” wrote one Twitter user named Bridget Lynn.

After the show, Chesney took to social media to thank Uncle Kracker for helping him surprise the crowd:

Last night in Detroit was so in the zone. So much energy exchanged and so much love inside @fordfield,” Chesney said. “Thank you, Detroit, and special thanks to my Detroit Rock City brother @unclekracker for your energy and sharing the stage. It was magic and as if we never left it.
