Lainey Wilson’s 2024 CMA Awards Performance

Wilson chose to perform “4X4XU” at the 2024 CMA Awards. Which she co-wrote with Joe Decious and Aaron Raitiere. The song is featured on her Whirlwind album.

Wilson confessed in an interview with Billboard that she did not mean to write another hit about trucks. She said:

“For so long I was like, ‘I’m not going to write about trucks.’ That’s what everybody does. [But] every single one of my biggest songs is about a damn truck. I couldn’t help it, but I guess you just write what you know. And the truth is, trucks are a big part of my childhood and even with the way that I live now, I’m always up and down the road.”

Wilson is referencing her other singles “Heart Like a Truck” and “Wait in the Truck,” a collaboration with HARDY.

Wilson continued her tradition by bringing an old blue truck on stage. She also featured a full band with a stunning night sky projected behind her. Wilson’s performance was completely mesmerizing.
