Rob And Michele Reiner’s Manner Of Death Revealed As “Homicide,” Son Nick Reiner Charged With Murder
Meg Ryan joins the many people paying tribute to Rob and Michele Reiner after their tragic deaths.
Rob, an actor, director, producer, and screenwriter, and Michele, a photographer and producer, were found deceased in their home on December 14. The New York Times reports that the couple’s daughter, Romy, discovered her father’s body. She left the house in a panic, and her roommate, who accompanied her there, called 911. Paramedics later informed Romy they found her mother’s body as well.
Authorities eventually arrested Romy’s older brother, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, in connection with their parents’ deaths. Rob and Michele also shared another son, Jake, and Rob had a daughter, Tracy, from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.

Nick Reiner appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday (December 17). His appearance came after he received formal charges on Tuesday (December 16).
As NBC News details, Nick’s charges included “two counts of murder with special circumstance allegations that he used a knife…If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty…“
Rob and Michele Reiner’s cause and manner of death became public on December 17. Their cause of death was listed as “multiple sharp force injuries.” Their manner of death was listed as “homicide.”
Meg Ryan Breaks Her Silence About Rob And Michele Reiner’s Deaths
Tributes to Rob and Michele came pouring in from their famous friends, including Kevin Bacon, Reba McEntire, and the cast of The Princess Bride (which Rob directed).
Meg Ryan, the star of another Rob Reiner-directed film (1989’s When Harry Met Sally), broke her silence about his and Michele’s passing in an emotional Instagram post on December 17.
“Oh how we will miss this man…” Meg wrote alongside a photo of her and Rob dancing together. “Thank you, Rob and Michele, for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”
She continued:
“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised… I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

Rob and Michele met on the set of When Harry Met Sally. After falling in love with Michele, Rob changed the movie’s ending so Harry and Sally would become a couple.
“Originally, Harry and Sally didn’t get together,” Rob explained when speaking to The Guardian in 2018, “But then I met Michele, and I thought, ‘OK, I see how this works.'”
