With the CMAs fast approaching, excited country fans are anxious for any information they can get about what is sure to be a history-making ceremony. Most details about this year’s CMAs have been kept tightly under wraps, with the artists and hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley only spilling tiny tidbits about what to expect.
Since this is the CMAs’ 50th anniversary, the show is going to celebrate some of the greatest country stars and songs of the past. Modern stars will perform these classic hits on stage, some alongside the icons who sang them. But other than that, we really don’t know that much about the CMAs!
So you can bet that fans rejoiced when the CMA posted a sneak peek at the seating chart for the show, which airs on ABC on Wednesday night (November 2). The CMAs’ small photo only showed us a few artists that we’ll see at the ceremony, but the picture was enough to let us know that all eyes will be on the people sitting next to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
Who would those people be? Well, none other than Chris Stapleton and his wife, Morgane. The choice to seat these two next to Tim and Faith is quite symbolic, considering the fact that they have been one of country music’s greatest power couples for decades, while Chris and Morgane are the dynamic duo of today.
Chris had been a well-respected member of the Nashville songwriting community for years when he had his breakout moment on the CMAs. In addition to blowing the crowd away with his performance of “Drink You Away” and “Tennessee Whiskey” with Justin Timberlake, Chris stunned everyone by taking home all of the awards he was nominated for. He even snagged the Male Vocalist of the Year Award, something no one expected.
In the year since, Chris has earned the status as one of the greatest country music superstars. He’s headlined shows across the country, all with Morgane by his side, since she sings harmony for him.
This year Chris is once again nominated for a handful of awards, and knowing about the clean sweep he made last year, everyone’s going to be watching him in anticipation that he’ll do the same thing on Wednesday night. Here’s a full list of what Chris is nominated for at the CMAs…and Morgane has a nod in there for Musical Event of the Year as well!
Musical Event of the Year, Music Video of the Year for “Fire Away,” Single of the Year for “Nobody to Blame,” Male Vocalist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
Best of luck to Chris and Morgane at this year’s awards! While you wait for the CMAs, enjoy watching Chris’ breakthrough performance from last year.
