An All-Star Lineup Honors All-Star Artist

On April 1, 2019, country music’s best and brightest stars gathered in Nashville to honor one of the genre’s most iconic figures…Loretta Lynn.

The gathering was held in honor of the legendary singer’s 87th birthday on April 14, and was a night full of fun, love, and of course, music.

If there was every any doubt over how much Lynn has influenced country music, look no further than the lineup of singers at her birthday concert. Well over a dozen artists came out to show their respect to Lynn.

Two artists that fans were especially anxious to hear from were Alan Jackson and Lee Ann Womack. They were the perfect people to have on the roster, as both have expressed how much they admire Lynn.

Womack often covers Lynn’s songs in her own shows, even singing one of her tunes when she stopped by the Opry on one occasion. As for Jackson, he has the upmost respect for Lynn. In honor of her birthday celebration, he posted a loving photo of the two of them together at his Country Music Hall of Fame induction in 2017.

A Duet Everyone Loves

So you can only imagine what happened when Jackson and Womack stepped on stage together at Lynn’s birthday celebration, combining their talents and appreciation for the person they were honoring.

The duo had a heavy task at hand…they were the ones who had to sing what many consider the greatest duet in all of country music history, “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”

Originally recorded by Lynn and her longtime duet partner Conway Twitty, the track was released in 1973 and was a number one country hit.

Because of its popularity, the song has been covered time and time again. But it doesn’t get any more “country” than Jackson and Womack’s rendition.

A Long History Of Honoring The Classics

This wasn’t the two singers’ first rodeo as duet partners. They’ve collaborated many times in the past, often doing so to honor their personal idols. Their rendition of the George Jones and Tammy Wynette duet “Golden Ring” is something that all country fans need to hear at least once in their lives.

When it was revealed that Jackson and Womack would be singing “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” everyone knew it was going to be good. And of course, it was!

The energy in the room reached an all-time high as the pair revived the lyrics that Lynn and Twitty made famous all those years ago. They truly captured the spirit of the song and stayed true to the source, which is what made their performance so enjoyable.
