Carrie Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. She has returned to the show several times to perform and has also served as a mentor to new contestants.
Underwood famously appeared as a mentor to the Top 5 contestants on the show’s 16th season. She mentored the season’s future winner Maddie Poppe, as well as runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and third place finisher Gabby Barrett.

Now, Underwood is returning to Idol to mentor another group of Top 5 contestants.
The news of Underwood’s Idol return was revealed during Sunday night’s (May 8) episode. Host Ryan Seacrest said the Top 5 contestants will get the chance to experience a “once in a lifetime mentor session” with Underwood as they prepare for the next phase of the competition.
Idol shared additional details about Underwood’s mentorship in a post on social media:
“Well, here’s a dream come true! #AmericanIdol icon @carrieunderwood will mentor the Top 5, live from the home of her Las Vegas residency ‘REFLECTION’ at @resortsworldlv! Who better to help our hopefuls earn a place in the Grand Finale?“
