Keith Urban Teams Up With Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan To Find America’s Next Big Star

Last fall, CBS revealed that Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan would be coming together to create a brand-new singing competition.

When the news broke, fans were excited to hear that Shelton and Sheridan were teaming up to executive produce a new show.

Shelton has 20 years of experience in the country music world and was a coach on The Voice for 23 seasons, so he definitely knows a lot about how a singing competition works. And of course, Sheridan, the creator of the Yellowstone franchise, has shown time and time again that he can create a successful series.

The new show, called The Road will seek out to find the next big music star. Contestants will join a headlining artist on tour as opening acts, performing at various venues across the country. As they compete, they’ll try to win over fans. This will earn them the chance to perform in the next city and stay on the tour.

The show will offer something different from the usual glitz and glamour found in other competition shows. The Road will focus on the real journey that aspiring artists face on tour, giving them a true perspective of the challenges involved, such as grueling work hours.

In a statement, Sheridan shared why he sees an opportunity in this approach.

“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” Sheridan said. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”

Details about The Road have been slim up until now. It was recently announced who the headliner will be.

The contestants will join country music sensation Keith Urban throughout the competition.

The news was shared in a video with Urban announcing that he will be joining Shelton and Sheridan to help allow hopefuls to make their breakout into the music world.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Urban and the contestants will perform in small to medium-sized venues in Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee beginning in March. Tickets to each show will be free, and be on a first come first serve basis.

The Road will premiere in the fall of 2025 on CBS.
