Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met in 2009 when they were cast to play the lead roles in the romantic film, The Last Song. The two quickly fell in love, and began dating.
Miley and Liam continued to date off and on for the next three years before Liam proposed in 2012. But a year later, the couple broke up. They rekindled their relationship in 2015, and eventually married during an intimate home ceremony in December 2018.
Now, just months after the couple said “I do,” they are splitting up. A rep for Miley released a statement to People announcing their decision to separate:
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
The news comes just one month after Miley’s interview with Elle about her “unique” marriage was published:
“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.” she said. She later went on to add, “I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”

Naturally, people were curious to see when, how, and if Miley would address her split from Liam. She seemingly did so through a new post made to Instagram on Sunday evening (August 11), her first post since the news of her split went public.
While Miley never obviously addressed her separation with Liam, her message seemed to reference it. The photos she shared showed her standing on top of a mountain, and her caption centered around that concept.
“Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” Miley wrote. “Like the mountain I am standing on top of , which was once under water , connected with Africa , change is inevitable.”
She then spoke about something her dad, Billy Ray, always taught her:
“My dad always told me ‘Nature never hurries but it is always on time’…. it fills my heart with peace and hope KNOWING that is true. I was taught to respect the planet and its process and I am committed to doing the same with my own ….”

The Dolomites were not created over night, it was over millions of years that this magnificent beauty was formed. We’re so sorry to hear this news. How did you react when you heard that Miley and Liam were splitting up?
