Late Radio Broadcaster Paul Harvey’s Estate Alleges Landman Used His Voiceover Without Permission

Paul Harvey’s estate has sued Paramount Global for using a recording of his voice in an episode of the hit Taylor Sheridan series Landman.

According to Reuters, Harvey’s estate filed the lawsuit in New York federal court on Monday (June 23). The lawsuit alleges that Landman’s tenth episode used a 90-second segment from the late radio broadcaster’s famous program, The Rest of the Story, without permission from his estate.

The Landman episode in question, “The Crumbs of Hope,” aired in January 2025. The scene referenced in the lawsuit included part of a monologue from Harvey on rising gas prices.

As Reuters explains, the lawsuit alleges that Landman altered Harvey’s monologue “to make it appear to support the oil industry. The documents detail how Harvey actually criticized fossil fuel policies in his full and original recording and endorsed alternative fuel sources.

Jaime Wolf, the lead attorney of Harvey’s estate, said the show “had no right to falsify the late Mr. Harvey’s message and turn him into an unwitting shill for big oil.” Harvey died in 2009 at the age of 90.

The Wrap and other outlets cited a statement from Wolf, which read, “Paramount not only grabbed a long, copyrighted audio clip without our client’s permission, but they also twisted the intent of Mr. Harvey’s words by editing his original broadcast.”

The lawsuit claims that lawyers for Harvey’s estate tried to contact Paramount in March. They alleged they have not received a response from the company.

Harvey’s estate is asking for his monologue to be removed from Landman. According to The Wrap, the estate also seeks financial compensation for the “advantage gained by [Paramount Global] through its infringement.”

Reuters reports that Paramount did not respond to their request for a comment on the lawsuit.

Landman Stars Are Currently Working On Season 2, Including New Cast Member Sam Elliott

Following the smash success of its first season, the cast and crew of Landman are working hard on Season 2. Production officially began in April.

Since then, the show’s stars, such as Demi Moore, have been spotted filming the new season. Moore, series lead Billy Bob Thornton, and the other performers gained a new co-star this year, as Sam Elliott has joined the cast.

Hardly anything is known about Elliott’s involvement or his character. Thornton shared what it’s like working with him on Landman, saying:

I’ve known Sam for a long time. We’re known each other since the ’80s, and to have him there is just a joy for me. He’s been a hero of mine my whole career, and I call him my friend, and he’s a great actor.”

We’ve also seen a photo of Elliott behind the scenes with two of his new co-stars, Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph. Check out that picture below to see if you can spot any clues about his character.

Season 2 of Landman is slated to debut in November.
