Season 2 Of Landman Is Scheduled To Start In November
The next time you see Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris in Landman, he’ll be starring alongside a longtime friend of his, Sam Elliott.
Landman‘s first season concluded in January 2025. Two months later, fans learned that the show had been renewed for a second season. Production on the new season began in early April.
As production started, rumors started circulating that Oscar-nominated actor Sam Elliott would join the cast. Elliott previously worked with Landman creator Taylor Sheridan on the Yellowstone prequel series 1883, in which Thornton also made a guest appearance.
In mid-April, Thornton seemingly confirmed the rumors about Elliott joining Landman. It took a few more weeks before Elliott’s involvement was finally (and officially) confirmed. Then, in May, fans learned to expect the debut of Landman‘s second season sometime in November.
We haven’t seen much of Elliott on the set of Landman so far, but he did stop to pose for a photo with his new co-stars, Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph.

Billy Bob Thornton Shares His Experience Working With Sam Elliott On Season 2 Of Landman
Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott go way back. In addition to previously starring on 1883 together, they’ve known each other since the ’80s.
Because of their longstanding relationship, Thornton is thrilled to be working with Elliott on Landman. He shared his feelings about them being co-stars again during a recent interview with Collider.
“I’ve known Sam for a long time,” he said. “We’ve known each other since the ’80s, and to have him there is just a joy for me. He’s been a hero of mine my whole career, and I call him my friend, and he’s a great actor.”
However, Thornton refrained from sharing details about Elliott’s character on Landman, saying, “I can’t say anything about his role.”
Thornton did share a little bit about his own character, Tommy Norris. He spoke about the character’s mindset going into Season 2 as the new president of the M-Tex oil company.
“I think Tommy is still always going to be a landman at heart, and I think he’s a reluctant president,” Thornton said. “So he’s not really the suit kind of guy, but he’s got to do both jobs, so he’s going to do his best at it.”
