Veteran actor Sam Elliott is a new addition to Landman this season. Elliott, who previously worked with Sheridan on 1883, joins Landman as a character named T.L.
Not much is known about T.L. except that he’s Tommy Norris’ father. Other details about the mysterious new character have been kept under wraps.
When asked about Elliott’s involvement with the show, Thornton said:
“I’ve known Sam for a long time. We’ve known each other since the ’80s, and to have him there is just a joy for me. He’s been a hero of mine my whole career, and I call him my friend, and he’s a great actor.“

Much like T.L., Sam Elliott is a somewhat mysterious figure. The 81-year-old actor only makes occasional public appearances these days.
In fact, Elliott wasn’t even on the hunt for a new role when Sheridan asked him to join the cast of Landman.
“I told Taylor that offers come in, but that he really spoiled me with ‘1883.’ That I was having a nice time at home,” Elliott told USA Today in a recent interview. “And Taylor wrote back, saying, ‘I’m going to get your ass back to work.’ That was his comment. I didn’t know what he was talking about.”
Elliott hesitated to take the job because he was dealing with some “medical B.S.” at the time. But Sheridan wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“Taylor told me, ‘Buddy, I’m not going without you,‘” Elliott recalled. “It was the greatest gift.“
Elliott was also thrilled to work with his longtime friend Thornton. “Sometimes, when you look someone in the eyes, it’s like you’re looking into them. That’s how it is with Billy,” he told USA Today.
On October 30, Elliott made a rare appearance to join Thornton, Demi Moore, and Ali Larter on the red carpet for the Los Angeles screening of Landman‘s second season. Elliott wore a dark green sweater and smiled for the camera as he posed for photos with his co-stars.
