Reality television star Savannah Chrisley was the latest celebrity revealed on The Masked Singer.

The past year has been a rough one for Chrisley Knows Best star Savannah Chrisley.  In January 2023, Chrisley’s parents, Todd and Julie, started serving their prison sentences for financial crimes that included an alleged bank fraud scheme. Savannah, 26, became the legal guardian for her younger brother and sister.

And in September, Savannah’s ex-fiance, Nic Kerdiles died as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Despite the heartbreak she has suffered in recent months, Savannah says she learned some valuable life lessons.

“This is my year of just saying yes, and especially after everything that happened with my parents and Nic,” Chrisley told PEOPLE. “I’m like, ‘You know what? Don’t take life too serious. Laugh, have fun, make fun of yourself, and just go for it.’ That was really the main reason why I did it.”

When offered the chance to compete on The Masked Singer, Chrisley was hesitant to sign on, saying that she has no musical abilities.

“I have zero talent whatsoever,” she said in her exit interview. “I just embraced it. I made people laugh … I have two kids that look up to me that sometimes may be afraid to step out of their comfort zone. I did it for them.”

Chrisley had so little confidence that she could deliver a spot-on performance that she declined voice lessons, instead choosing to do a brief run-through prior to the live show.

“The team offered me vocal lessons and all that, but I was like, ‘Hey, guys, it’s just going to be a waste of time because I have zero musical abilities, so let’s just call it for what it is, and we’ll do a run-through when I get there,” she told PEOPLE. “That’s what happened, and I just feel like I would’ve run myself crazy if I actually tried to prepare for it because I’m freaking terrible.”

Savannah took the Masked Singer stage, disguised as an Afghan Hound, to sing the decades-old hit, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Throughout her pitchy performance she broke down in laughter, clearly embracing the hilarious experience.

Upon her unmasking, Chrisley told the judges that a big motivation behind her decision to join the show was the fact that her parents can watch from prison. She joked that her dad will likely be “royally disappointed” with her vocals, but says that her participation is proof that you can take something and turn it into a joke and have fun with it.
