Earlier in June, Toby Keith announced he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall. He did not go public with his diagnosis at that time. He kept the news private while he received chemo and radiation treatments and underwent surgery.
When Toby shared the news with his fans, he said:
“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait. -T”

Toby canceled all of his upcoming shows after making that statement. The “tour” section of his official website is now blank.
Many people reached out to Toby and his family to share their support after he revealed his diagnosis. Toby and his wife, Tricia, share three children, two daughters and a son: Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen.
Toby’s son Stelen took to social media to thank everyone who is praying for his dad during this time. He said:
“Thank you to you all for the kind words and prayers regarding my dads announcement yesterday. He’s a fighter, has done all the measures to mitigate it and needs rest to get back to his self. Please keep the prayers flowing, but know this is all going to be in the rear view a short ways down the road.”

Not long after announcing his cancer diagnosis, Toby got online to wish all of the dads in his fanbase a happy Father’s Day. He shared his wishes alongside a photo of him and who appears to be a baby Stelen.
“Here’s to all the dads out there that refuse to let the old man in. Happy #FathersDay!” Toby wrote.

Toby’s message refers to his song “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” The song was featured in the 2018 Clint Eastwood movie The Mule.
