The Season 4 finale of Yellowstone aired on Sunday night (January 2). While fans have to wait to see what happens to the modern-day Duttons, they can keep up with their ancestors’ stories on 1883.
1883 is the new Yellowstone prequel series that premiered on Paramount+ on December 19. The series stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as John Dutton’s paternal great-grandparents, James and Margaret. Isabel May plays the couple’s adventurous daughter, Elsa, and Audie Rick plays John’s grandfather, also named John.
The show follows the Duttons’ journey West as they venture to their eventual home in Montana. Their guide is a hardened cowboy named Shea Brennan, played by Academy Award-nominated actor Sam Elliott. Shea’s right-hand man, Thomas, is portrayed by LaMonica Garrett.

Three episodes of 1883 have been released so far. The first three episodes have featured lots of drama and tragedy as the Duttons have faced the challenges of the Wild West.
Viewers were expecting the release of a new episode on Sunday (January 2). But they were disappointed when they checked their Paramount+ accounts and noticed no new episode was available.
Instead of releasing a new episode, 1883 shared a behind-the-scenes special into the making of the series titled The Road West.

LaMonica Garrett, the actor who plays Thomas, took to his Instagram Story to let his followers know that a new episode would not drop on January 2. He shared some details about the behind-the-scenes special and revealed Episode 4’s release date.
“Tonight’s episode will be a look at BTS,” LaMoncia said. “After this NYE weekend, episode 4 will air next Sunday.” That means that the next episode of 1883 will be released on Sunday, January 9.
Tim McGraw confirmed this news in a post of his own.
“The Road West… The Making of 1883 is out now on Paramount+,” Tim said. “Go behind the scenes this week, and stay tuned for another new episode next Sunday!”
