Blake Joins Talented Young Team Member In Finale
Blake Shelton is no stranger to singing with his contestants during The Voice finale. Out of all of the coaches on the show, he has won the most, and has also been to the finale a bunch.
One of his former finalists Season 12’s Aliyah Moulden, who was 15 years old at the time.
The talented young singer was frontrunner from the beginning of her season. She won over America’s hearts with her covers of songs such as “Jealous,” “I Can Only Imagine,” and “Hound Dog.”
Viewers were captivated by Moulden’s powerful voice and mature stage presence. She showcased both of these during her duet performance with Shelton later in the season.
The coach and contestant duo opted to sing one of the most popular songs in history, “Dancing in the Street.”
This Song Goes Way Back
Covered countless times, the song first became popular when it was recorded by Martha and the Vandellas, who scored a number two hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song became a Motown signature, but also found a home in rock thanks to artists such as the Mamas & the Papas and Van Halen.
One of the most iconic renditions of the song was recorded as a duet by rock legends David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Their version was a number one hit in the UK and hit the seventh spot on the chart in the U.S.
A Modern Twist
Now we can add Shelton and Moulden’s cover of “Dancing in the Street” to the long list of artists who came before them.
The song was an immediate hit with the studio audience, who threw their hands up in the air and clapped along to the beat.
Moulden was the one who got the chance to shine in their duet. She seemed completely at home on the stage, as she confidently danced around and interacted with the crowd.
Shelton beamed at her the entire time, clearly proud of how far she had come since her blind audition.
The two obviously had a blast singing on stage together, and we had a blast watching them! Listen to their full performance by tuning in to the studio recording below.
