Some Of Country Music’s Biggest Stars Didn’t Attend The 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards

The 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards were held on Thursday, September 26, but some of country music’s hottest stars didn’t attend the ceremony.

This year’s PCCAs were held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. Shania Twain hosted the show and also performed to kick off the event.

Other performers included Kelsea Ballerini, Kane Brown, Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban, among others. Special awards were given to Kane Brown (the Country Champion) and Miranda Lambert (the Country Icon).

As for the regular award categories, the PCCAs had 18 awards to hand out. With 19 nominations, Zach Bryan was the most-nominated artist, followed by Beyoncé with 17 nominations.

Only a few of the 18 awards were presented live during the ceremony. The other winners were announced in a rapid-fire style near the end of the program.

Some of the night’s biggest winners didn’t attend the People’s Choice Country Awards to accept their trophies in person. See a list of those artists here and the possible reasons why they skipped the show.

As one of country music’s most popular artists, it is no surprise that Luke Combs won three PCCAs this year. He won the Male Artist of 2024, the Male Song of 2024 (for “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma”), and the Album of 2024 (for Fathers & Sons).

But Combs didn’t attend the ceremony this year. He’s gearing up for two back-to-back shows at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, on October 4 and 5.

Country music superstar Lainey Wilson is the reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year. She also won big at the 2024 PCCAs, taking home the trophy for the Female Artist of 2024.

However, Wilson was unable to attend the PCCAs this year. She had a concert in Vancouver, Canada, on the same night!

Jelly Roll and MGK won the PCCA for the Crossover Song of 2024 for their collaboration, “Lonely Road.”

MGK attended the ceremony and accepted the award. He thanked Jelly Roll for his friendship, acknowledging that they used to be rivals. But now, there’s nothing but love between them.

Like his “Save Me” duet partner Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll also had a concert scheduled for the same night as the PCCAs. He performed in Boston, Massachusetts, so he couldn’t attend the ceremony this year.

Zach Bryan

Despite being the most-nominated artist at the People’s Choice Country Awards, Zach Bryan only won one category. He and Kacey Musgraves won the Collaboration Song of 2024 for their popular duet, “I Remember Everything.”

However, Bryan did not attend the PCCAs to accept his award. He may simply be enjoying some time off at home before he has a run of shows in Canada and the Pacific Northwest in November.

Like her “I Remember Everything” duet partner, Kacey Musgraves also skipped the PCCAs this year. Her and Bryan’s win for Collaboration Song of 2024 was the only award she earned at the 2024 PCCAs.

Musgraves is currently on her Deeper Well World Tour, and has a concert scheduled for the day after the PCCAs (September 27) in Glendale, Arizona.

Country music superstar Cody Johnson was nominated for five PCCAs this year and won one. His single “Dirt Cheap” was named the Storyteller Song of 2024.

Johnson couldn’t attend the PCCAs this year, maybe because Friday (September 27) was a huge day for him. He released a new duet with Carrie Underwood and also announced the upcoming release of the deluxe edition of his hit album, Leather.

Johnson shared a video to thank his fans for his PCCAs win. He said:

…I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everybody who voted for this. Storyteller Song of the Year, 2024. I think it’s very important to mention that Josh Phillips, the songwriter on ‘Dirt Cheap,’ wrote this by himself. So, without Josh I wouldn’t have this award. And without you, voting as fans, I wouldn’t have this.”

Post Malone is still celebrating the August release of his #1 country album, F-1 Trillion, which includes collaborations with many of country music’s biggest names.

He also has another achievement to celebrate…a win at the People’s Choice Country Awards! He and Morgan Wallen won the Song of the Year award for “I Had Some Help.”

But Post Malone didn’t attend the PCCAs to claim his trophy. Instead, he enjoyed a fun night out at the Giants vs. Cowboys game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. As a huge Cowboys fan, he was surely thrilled that they won the matchup with a score of 20-15!

Morgan Wallen

For the second year in a row, Morgan Wallen won the PCCAs‘ biggest award, the People’s Artist. As mentioned above, he and Post Malone also won the Song of the Year award for their hit duet, “I Had Some Help.” Additionally, Wallen won the Social Star of 2024 award and the award for the Concert Tour of 2024.

However, Wallen did not attend the People’s Choice Country Awards to accept his trophies in person. He may be getting ready for his next show in Tampa, Florida, on October 4.

Maybe fans will get the chance to see Wallen at the PCCAs in 2025! Congratulations to him and all of the other artists who an award this year.
