Priscilla Presley was only married to Elvis for six years, but their marriage was full of highs and lows as detailed in a new interview published by PEOPLE Wednesday (September 1).
In the interview, Elvis’s ex-wife shared memories of his notorious temper, including how he reacted when seeing something on tv he didn’t like.
“If he saw somebody he didn’t like on the TV, he’d get his gun out and blow it up,” she says. “Then he would tell his daddy to go get another TV.”
One of the downsides of marrying someone with the celebrity status of Elvis Presley was the constant attention he got from other women.
“Women gravitated to him, so I would be nervous when he had to go places alone. I would even go with him to get his teeth cleaned! I always had an eye on him because everyone in the world was after him,” Priscilla admitted.
But, the good memories far outweighed the bad and Priscilla enjoyed her unique life with the King of Rock and Roll.
“I was always ready to greet him at the door and pamper him,” says Priscilla who married Elvis when she was 21 and he was 32. “I loved taking care of Elvis very much. I loved tending to him. I loved feeding him. We would baby talk, because you have to have your own language when you have that many people around. It was a good life. It was different, but it was ours.”
Now 76, Priscilla fell for the “Don’t Be Cruel” singer when she was only 14, and admitted to PEOPLE that she knew right away that she wanted him.
Priscilla said she “had to keep him. I wanted to go places with him. I would cry if I couldn’t be around him.”
Priscilla shares a daughter, Lisa Marie, with Elvis and treasures her time with him. “I truly cherish the great times. As you grow up, there are always fears and insecurities,” says Priscilla. “But as you get older you understand it all.”
