When Craig Wayne Boyd won The Voice in December 2014, he was one of the most admired winners on the show. His performances of songs such as “The Old Rugged Cross” made the Team Blake member a frontrunner in the competition from early on.
After winning The Voice, Boyd’s fans were anxious for him to release an album. But nearly two years have passed and Boyd still doesn’t have a record to share with his fans. Why?
It turns out that Boyd got tangled up in a lengthy battle with the record label he was assigned to after winning The Voice. It all started when Boyd showed up to his record label and the executives had no idea who he was. Boyd told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in November 2015 that after he walked into the room, the executives said, “you’re who and you’re what?”
Despite that initial incident, Boyd went ahead and proceeded to move forward with his plans to record a new album, and even updated his fans about it on social media. However, it came to the point where Boyd just couldn’t handle his record label any longer, and he hired an attorney to help him get out of his contract.
After he left his record label, Boyd released his second single, “I’m Still Here,” off of his own imprint called Long Haul Records. Now, after all of this time, Boyd is finally set to release his album, as he revealed in an announcement on Facebook on Wednesday (October 5).
Due for release in March 2017, Boyd has made his album available for fans to order off of PledgeMusic, where they can also buy special items such as handwritten lyric sheets and VIP concert passes. You can even hire Boyd to come sing at your wedding!
After all of this time, we’re so excited that Boyd finally has some new music to share with us, aren’t you? Tune in below to watch him perform his #1 hit single, “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face.”
